venom666 As you travel through Wood Lane, beware the chill wind that moans through the trees like hungry mouths whispering to you that the sun will never rise again. Or something like that. This is British Doom, taking the sound back to where it all began.
You've got Sabbath-like riffing and straffing, with a touch of Hawkwind coloring the songs. If you like Sabbath, Atomic Rooster, Hawkwind, Lucifer's Friend or Doom with a touch of Prog, you'll love "Wood Lane".

paul rote Incredible acid doom that sounds like Hawkwind on Black Sabbath micro dots . The lyrics are anti-Christian. I take it as anti - church but seeking truth .
Remember Jesus taught against religion to his own
" chosen " people. They were so happy about it that they killed him .

Chefyego Woke this morning to the NEW Dark Matter album. Straight to DOWLOAD for train comute
Spluttering of Hawkwind, early Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, a little late 80s Northern rockish sound in there i think
They wouldnt go a miss at the original Woodstock

stewart taylor

stewart taylor Dave Gilbert played all instruments and delivered vocals on the 2015 debut album Dark Matter. On Wood Lane, Dave collaborates with Gandalf's Fist drummer Stefan Hepe to deliver another slab of doomy Heavy Rock.
The addition of Stefan makes the sound more dynamic, producing a fine sounding album.
Mid-period Sabbath influences are to the fore with some progressive touches. The songs have crunching riffs, interesting vocals and there is a nice piano accompanied ballad.
Great release all round!
Sabbath Hanks

Sabbath Hanks Decent follow up to previous album, but not nearly as interesting which was a bit of a disappointment. However, I like this band's direction and hope they continue to make Sabbath inspired music with their own twist. Down in the Valley and King of Colours are very good songs that will remain on my phone for awhile. Favorite track: King Of Colours.

davidianfutter If you like, Black Sabbath, Opeth, or Witchfinder General then you'll love the "Wood Lane" the new CD from Dark Matter. This is a band created by Dave Gilbert, who handles vocals, guitars, bass, synths and had written all the tracks, together with Stefan Hepe on drums. The result is a triumph of doom rock. An album by people that really know the genre and is beautifully packaged. Excellent. Favorite track: Wood Lane.

Chemical induced astronaut, floating in his sky. Supersonic mind escapes, don't ask questions why. Let him be your leader, let him be your king, let him guide your weary soul, 'til your heart begins to sing. No one hears a whisper, no one hears a sound, man of colours floats in space, his doubters all have drowned. Racing through the darkness, new colours behind his eyes. Cosmic heart still pounding, a world of beautiful lies. Do not wake the sleeper, his world seems bright today, This trip must last for evermore, 'til chemical decay. No one hears a whisper, no one hears a sound, man of colours starts to wake, with visions so profound. Sterile was his past life, riddled with disease. Too much pain and anguish, no hope, no one to please. A loner and a dreamer, square peg in a round hole. He's on this trip for all of us, to save us is his goal. No one hears a whisper, no one hears a sound, man of colours starts to wake, with visions so profound. High above us like no other, spaceman brother king of colours.

Two thousand years of hopes and fears, the power of Gods word. Hear the preachers read the scripts, do you think they sound absurd? Are you sickened by religion, plagued by war and hate? Watch them prey on innocents to reach for the hand of fate. The truth is out there, no change as time goes by. The truth is out there, can't listen to your lies. Do you see self righteous bigots, who in God's name we trust? Guiding us to the pure bright light, away from Satan's lust. Perverting of the scared words to suit their lustful needs. Abomination their creation, wars and misery. The truth is out there, no change as time goes by. The truth is out there, can't listen to your lies. Pagan alters standing proud in the northern lands they fear. Circles made of unhoned stone as the scriptures tell so clear. Intolerance of an age gone by of people that lived so true. Enlightened by the things they'd seen, entranced by the sun & the moon. So in our land oh preacher man, you have changed the laws. The holy script from ancient times adapted for your cause. How can you believe in something then rewrite the rules? Manipulation of religion thinking we're all fools. The truth is out there, no change as time goes by. The truth is out there, can't listen to your lies.

Communication breakdown, lifeless faces all around. Only talk in text, generation X. Living your life for pixels, four walled world of shadows. Death's hand weaves within hopeless dreams. What is it like living your life for TV screens? An idiot lantern pulls you into a computer dream. Let the war unfurl in your four walled world and settle into theme. Days turn to night in the flick of a light in a hopeless scene. Reality is falling, your four walled world is calling. What do you feel, is life too real? Wasting your life in faking and wasting your time in asking. I can't see you in me. What is it like living your life for TV screens? An idiot lantern pulls you into a computer dream. Let the war unfurl in your four walled world and settle into theme. Days turn to night in the flick of a light in a hopeless scene. Sterile world of violence, negative confused scilence. Your brain is dead, your future's red. Those old friends now mean nothing, your bedroom is your coffin. Your mother's purse became your hearse. What is it like living your life for TV screens? An idiot lantern pulls you into a computer dream. Let the war unfurl in your four walled world and settle into theme. Days turn to night in the flick of a light in a hopeless scene.

Wood Lane 07:12
Moving away from so much pain, trying to find peace of mind. Drifting slowly away in a euphoric daze, the mist is clearing, we're breathing. A respite from the negative entities, two lonely people stalked by shadows. The fun and the laughter of yesterdays becomes evident again, we're living. We're on Wood Lane, it's a lonely place, but our concience feels we're not alone. An old man watches the world go by in another time, sitting in the ruins of the hopes and dreams he'd left behind. Seeing is believing, hoping our friends will come. Opened for receiving and mesmerized in winter's sun.
5.
Instant conclusion, conspiracies. Witches are plotting in a false warm breeze. Laughter and whispers in East Anglia. Devil's daughters together have no fear. Down in the valley beside the river and lake, feelings of dread as three congregate. Spewing pure evil from the belly of the beast. As one they are Satan preparing their feast. Slyly they smile before they take the souls of the fragile, just for evil's sake. Ridiculing when threatened is their defence. Small minds threatened by their ignorance. Look into their eyes, what do you see? The seven deadly sins of humanity? Manifestation of misery? Uglyness dwells here like disease. Step out of line it's a dark conclusion. To be in control is their solution. Your intelligence, a bullet through their brains. Their ignorance takes you down to their drains. Can you hear the ghosts of the past in whispers? Village tales of magic and mysteries. Down in the valley, hear it's awakening. Three witches are laughing at me.
6.
This world is hostage to the Gods from the stories new and old. The gates of hell are open now but the truth is raw and cold. Mindless paranoia, the enemy within. Destroying all our beauty, the church, the home of sin. Have you seen the way they pray, it's like they hang their heads in shame? One day they'll realise in their gutless lives that afterlife's not their's to claim. The way they fight for heaven, killing men in scores. Hiding behind the masses, watching all their wars. So clip the wings of Satan's Kings, the war has just begun. Realise that all real men, march out to the sun. We're marching on to the fires of Hell to settle an old time score. To fight for the right to have our say on the things we so deplore. The Christians and the Martyrs, never to be seen. Shackled in their living hell, beyond a waking dream.
